KNDS fits tracked RCH 155 with new 58-calibre ordnance, signalling longer-range path

KNDS Deutschland has fitted a tracked RCH 155 with a new KNDS France 155mm/58-calibre ordnance, opening a potential path toward significantly longer artillery range and a future beyond the current NATO 52-calibre standard.

Why it matters: A six-calibre jump is a statement of intent — KNDS is betting that the artillery duel will keep pushing range, and NATO standards will follow reality rather than lead it.

Ukraine receives first RCH 155 wheeled howitzers after four-year delay

Ukraine has taken delivery of its first RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers, roughly four years after Germany pledged the system in September 2022, according to German Aid to Ukraine, an independent assistance tracker. The delivery was confirmed through a non-governmental source. RCH 155 is built by KNDS and mounts a 155 mm/L52 gun on an 8×8 wheeled chassis with automated ammunition handling.

Why it matters: Four years from pledge to first delivery is a useful benchmark for what 'German commitment' means in practice when the system isn't already sitting in a depot.
