Ukraine's SBU destroys second Tu-95 bomber at Engels-2 airbase in six weeks
Ukrainian Security Service Alpha special operations unit struck a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber at Engels-2 airbase in Russia's Saratov region overnight, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed. The strike marks the second time in roughly six weeks that Ukrainian drones operated by SBU Alpha have hit a Tu-95 at the base, over 600 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. Ukraine also attacked an oil refinery in Yaroslavl region.
Why it matters: Two Tu-95 kills at the same base in six weeks suggests Ukraine's SBU drone units have cracked Engels-2's air defences — Russia's strategic bomber fleet is shrinking faster than production can replace it.
