US military uses AeroVironment directed-energy system to defeat three cartel drones at Mexico border
US forces used an Army Multipurpose High Energy Laser, manufactured by AeroVironment, to destroy three hostile drones during an overnight operation at the southern border in Texas's Rio Grande Valley, US Northern Command confirmed. The task force did not disclose the exact location or who was suspected of flying the drones, but suggested they could have been used for reconnaissance by a drug cartel.
